Schema.org, Entities and the Future of Search

Back in the fall it was revealed that Google developed a new ranking tool/algorithm component called “Rank Brain” that would enhance the machine learning factor when it comes to determining where a website should rank. A recent patent filing reveals that there is clear intent to improve machine learning and entity identification in the search algorithm.

Google Announces that Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) articles are now available in the search results.

Following the AMP-facing changes to the Structured Data page for Article Rich Snippets made in December, Google has now added a new page to the Structured Data section of the Google Developers site: “Top Stories with AMP“.

Google is completely redesigning AdWords

On Monday, Google announced the start of a major redesign process. “AdWords is now over 15 years old and launched when Google was just figuring out what search advertising was… We are in probably the biggest shift since AdWords was introduced (and I’d argue perhaps ever) with mobile,” said Feng, “And there is now increased demand on marketers and on AdWords as a platform — advertisers are running ads in search, display, shopping, mobile, video. Ultimately, that’s why we’re re-imagining AdWords.”

Yahoo Ad Reps Jumping Ship, Leaving Advertisers With No Alternatives?

Yesterday, Kenny Hyder posted on Twitter that his Yahoo Ads account representative is no longer reachable. His email responds back that he is no longer at Yahoo and his phone was disconnected. Kenny received no information about who his new ad representative is, nor was he given any warning.

E.U. Considering a Tax on Google Showing Snippet

In a consultation, the E.U. is considering a snippets tax on Google for what is described as “neighbouring rights” to publishers.
