Good post! A point of clarification, though. You say:
“The data may be embedded in your webpage using any of three supported formats: JSON-LD, RDFa, and microdata.”
If one of the reasons you’re employing structured data markup is to facilitate the generation of rich snippets in Google, it’s worth noting that JSON-LD is (at time of writing) not yet supported for all rich snippet types.
For example, if was one to review the Google Developers page on “Enabling Rich Snippets for Products” one would find this warning:
“We are in the process of implementing JSON-LD support for this Rich Snippet type. At the current time, we recommend using microdata or RDFa.”
So if rich snippets are a desired outcome, one should definitely consult the Google Developers documentation to make sure JSON-LD is supported for the desired snippet type.
Hi Aaron,
Right on. We have been tracking Google Features in a spreadsheet which includes a column for JSON-LD support. Look for that featured post soon!
